IHC missing citizen case

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has given police additional time to recover Afzal Maseeh, a citizen who went missing from Islamabad, and directed authorities to produce him before the court by Friday. 

Missing Citizen Case Heard by IHC

The case was heard by Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir after Afzal Maseeh’s wife filed a petition seeking his recovery. According to the petition, Afzal went missing from the Malpur area within the jurisdiction of Barakahu Police Station. 

The petitioner’s lawyer alleged that an influential individual had accused Afzal of buffalo theft and was keeping him in illegal detention. Police, however, later told the court that the individuals named in the petition denied having the missing man in their custody. 

Police Seek More Time for Recovery

During the latest proceedings, the police requested additional time to locate Afzal. The petitioner’s lawyer also agreed to give authorities more time, with October 7 initially requested as the deadline.

The court subsequently granted police two additional days and directed them to recover the missing citizen by Friday. 

Financial Dispute Emerges in Case

Two people named in the petition, Raja Yasir and Faisal, appeared before the court. They denied having Afzal in their custody and told the court that they had a financial transaction with him.

A stamp paper relating to the alleged financial transaction was also presented before the court. 

Court Seeks Police Action

The IHC has placed responsibility on the police to continue efforts to trace and recover Afzal. The case remains under judicial consideration as authorities work to determine his whereabouts.

The development comes after the court had previously directed authorities to take steps for the missing citizen’s recovery.
