Aijaz Jakhrani family home raid

KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Faryal Talpur has called for an investigation into a police raid at the family home of PPP Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Mir Aijaz Hussain Jakhrani in Karachi. She has asked the Sindh police chief to submit a report clarifying the circumstances surrounding the operation.

Talpur, who chairs the Sindh Assembly’s Standing Committee on Home Affairs, stressed that authorities must respect the sanctity of homes and protect citizens’ rights. She also said that injustice against any citizen should not be tolerated.

The development comes after police registered a narcotics case against Azad Jakhrani, the lawmaker’s brother, following the alleged recovery of cocaine and crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as ice, from a suspect and a property in Karachi.

Aijaz Jakhrani Calls for Action Against Responsible Officers

Reacting to the incident, Aijaz Jakhrani alleged that police raided his family home during the night and violated the privacy of the residence. He said officers informed him that the operation was conducted based on information provided by a suspect in police custody.

The MNA stated that although he had already distanced himself from his brother, the property remained their family home. He also said women were living at the residence, raising concerns about the manner in which the raid was conducted.

Jakhrani said he had contacted Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar and Inspector General of Police Javed Alam Odho to inform them about the incident.

He called for a transparent inquiry and demanded action against any police officers found responsible for misconduct.

Police Register Narcotics Case Against Azad Jakhrani

According to the first information report (FIR) registered at Karachi’s Darakhshan police station, police stopped a motorcyclist near the Clock Tower area on suspicion and allegedly recovered 62 grammes of cocaine and 106 grammes of crystal methamphetamine.

The FIR states that the suspect identified Azad Jakhrani as the alleged owner of the drugs and informed investigators that additional narcotics were kept inside a bungalow.

Police subsequently searched the property based on the suspect’s identification. During the search, officers reportedly discovered crystal methamphetamine and 22 grammes of cocaine inside a cupboard.

According to the FIR, the recovered crystal methamphetamine weighed more than one kilogramme. The bungalow’s watchman reportedly told investigators that the property’s owner was living abroad.

The allegations are part of the ongoing criminal investigation and have not, by themselves, established guilt.
