LAHORE: The Punjab Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has launched an aggressive crackdown on smoke-emitting vehicles across Lahore as authorities step up preparations for the upcoming smog season. The agency has deployed 10 dedicated teams at major roads and entry points to identify vehicles violating environmental standards.
10 EPA Teams Deployed Across Lahore
EPA teams have been stationed at key locations including Thokar Niaz Baig, Multan Road, Pine Avenue, Ferozepur Road, Canal Road, Main Boulevard Gulberg, Jail Road, Mall Road, Shahdara and Saggian.
The operation aims to reduce vehicular emissions before smog conditions become more severe in the city.
Smoke-Emitting Vehicles Face Action
Under the campaign, vehicles will be tested for emissions exceeding the Punjab Environmental Quality Standards (PEQS). Vehicles found producing excessive smoke may face strict enforcement, including impounding.
Officials will record vehicle registration numbers, categories, emission readings, compliance status and any action taken during inspections.
Green Sticker Compliance Required
The EPA has also directed teams to take action against vehicles without the required green stickers. Emission analysers will be provided to ensure vehicles are assessed through proper testing rather than visual inspection alone.
Traffic personnel will assist EPA teams with stopping vehicles, managing traffic and carrying out enforcement operations safely.
Crackdown to Continue Until Further Orders
EPA Punjab Director General Abdullah Nayyar Sheikh has directed that the 10-team deployment remain in place until further orders.
The teams will submit daily reports detailing inspections, emission levels and enforcement actions. The information will then be shared with relevant EPA departments for monitoring and analysis.

Lahore Steps Up Anti-Smog Measures
The latest vehicle crackdown comes as Punjab intensifies preparations for the smog season. Authorities have already increased monitoring of pollution sources, including industrial units, brick kilns and crop-burning areas.
The focus on vehicle emissions is aimed at preventing highly polluting vehicles from continuing to contribute to Lahore’s air pollution as conditions become more favourable for smog formation.
