The Army Act Amendment Bill, 2025 is on the agenda of the Senate of Pakistan today after having been passed by the National Assembly of Pakistan.
The bill is part of a trio of amendments — covering the Army, Air Force and Navy Acts — that will align Pakistan’s military-legislation with the recently approved 27th Amendment to the Constitution of Pakistan.
Key features of the amendments include: the creation of a new post — Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) — the abolition of the position of Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), and a reset of the tenure of the current Army Chief.
