Israeli military kills Palestinian in the occupied West Bank during an operation targeting suspects allegedly involved in a deadly attack on a pregnant Israeli woman, the army said on Saturday.
The victim, 32-year-old Tzeela Gez, was shot near the Brukhin settlement on Wednesday as she was en route to a hospital to deliver her baby. She was later pronounced dead after undergoing an emergency cesarean section. The baby survived, according to hospital sources.
As the investigation unfolded, the Israeli military killed a Palestinian suspect during an arrest operation in the same area. The military reported that the individual charged at soldiers while carrying a backpack believed to be booby-trapped, prompting troops to respond with lethal force.
According to a military statement, several other suspects believed to be connected to the attack on the pregnant woman were also apprehended in the West Bank.
This incident comes amid heightened tension in the region. On Thursday, Israeli military forces killed five Palestinian militants in separate operations across the West Bank. The territory, home to nearly 3 million Palestinians and hundreds of thousands of Israeli settlers, has witnessed escalating violence in recent weeks.
Since the 1967 war, when Israel captured the West Bank, the area has remained a flashpoint of conflict. Military operations, like the one in which the Israeli military kills Palestinian suspects, continue to raise international concern about the rising civilian toll and the fragile security situation.
As unrest intensifies across the West Bank, incidents where the Israeli military kills Palestinian suspects during high-risk operations are drawing increasing global scrutiny. The latest operation, tied to the tragic death of a pregnant woman, underscores the region’s ongoing volatility and the challenges facing peace efforts.
