Karachi Board first-year results 2026

The Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) has announced the results of the 2026 Intermediate Part-I annual examinations, introducing a new grading rule that requires students to secure at least 40% marks in each subject to pass.

Under the revised policy, students scoring below 40% in any paper will be classified as “ungraded” in that subject and will be considered unsuccessful in the paper. The results cover pre-medical, general science, commerce, arts, special candidates and home economics groups.

New Grading System for First-Year Students

The new grading system has been introduced in line with decisions by the Inter Board Coordination Commission (IBCC) and the Sindh government’s Universities and Boards Department.

Students must meet the minimum 40% passing threshold in each paper. Those who fall short will need to retake the relevant subject, subject to the board’s examination eligibility requirements.

The change makes subject-wise performance particularly important, as students must pass each paper rather than relying only on their overall marks.

First-Year Result Statistics by Group

The board reported the following results for students who appeared in the 2026 annual examinations.

Examination group Students appeared Passed all papers
Pre-Medical 24,544 11,966
General Science 30,386 15,036
Commerce (Regular) 22,693 9,332
Commerce (Private) 1,413 628
Arts (Regular) 10,678 3,748
Arts (Private) 1,623 692
Special Candidates (Arts Regular) 97 58
Home Economics 141 41

The figures show that passing all papers varied across the different groups. Students should check their individual results to confirm their subject-wise status under the new grading rules.

Electronic Assessment Introduced for Science Subjects

BIEK said optional subjects in the science groups were assessed using Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) and electronic marking systems.

The use of electronic assessment is intended to support the examination process, while the revised grading policy establishes the minimum marks required to pass each paper.
