KARACHI: Tragedy struck in Landhi’s Bhains Colony area when an on-duty police personnel was shot dead by unidentified attackers, officials confirmed on Monday.
According to police sources, the incident took place near 10 Number Road, where the armed assailant opened fire on the officer identified as Qaiser, who was deployed at Saudabad Police Station in District Korangi.
Authorities revealed that Qaiser was killed while resisting a robbery attempt. An eyewitness stated that the officer, dressed in plain clothes at the time, was targeted during the confrontation.
Local residents reported seeing a man carrying a 30-bore pistol fleeing the crime scene. Witnesses further claimed that the suspect abandoned his motorcycle after it broke down and quickly boarded a passing bus to escape.
The officer’s body was moved to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for post-mortem examination before being handed over to his family. Police have registered an FIR and launched a full-scale investigation to track down the suspect.
This incident adds to a worrying trend of attacks on law enforcement in Karachi. On September 17, police constable Sadam Hussain was gunned down in Gulshan-e-Maymar while getting his motorcycle repaired. Four men in a white car opened fire, leaving him fatally wounded. Forensic teams later recovered multiple 9mm and 30-bore pistol shells from the site.
In another case reported in August, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Mohammad Khan Abro was shot dead in Bin Qasim Town. According to SHO Faisal Rafiq, Abro was ambushed outside his home when motorcycle-riding gunmen opened fire. He was rushed to Jinnah Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah expressed grave concern over the targeted killing of police officers in Karachi. He directed the Inspector General of Police to present a detailed report and ensure swift action against the culprits.
