Nana Patekar Dies After Cardiac Arrest
Patekar was reportedly found unconscious at his residence in Dona Paula, Goa, in the early hours of Thursday. Doctors attempted to revive him for around 45 minutes, but he could not be saved. A preliminary medical assessment indicated cardiac arrest as the likely cause of death.
His son, Malhar Patekar, confirmed the death, according to Indian media reports. Patekar’s final rites are expected to take place in Maharashtra, with the state government announcing that he will receive full state honours.
A Career Spanning Nearly Five Decades
Born Vishwanath Patekar in Maharashtra in 1951, Nana Patekar began his career in Marathi theatre before moving into films. He made his Hindi film debut with Gaman in 1978 and gradually established himself as one of India’s most distinctive performers.
His intense acting style and forceful dialogue delivery helped him stand out in both serious and commercial films.
Famous Roles in Parinda and Krantiveer
Patekar received widespread recognition for his performances in films including Parinda, Krantiveer and Salaam Bombay!. His work in Krantiveer earned him the National Film Award for Best Actor.
He later demonstrated his versatility in mainstream comedies, most notably playing Uday Shetty in the popular Welcome franchise.
