KARACHI, October 1, 2026 — A suspected job scam at a farmhouse in Karachi’s Gadap area left 51 women without their mobile phones after an organiser allegedly collected the devices and fled, police said. The women had reportedly been brought to the venue believing they were attending a job-related event.
Women Brought to Farmhouse for Job Opportunity
According to reports, the women arrived at the farmhouse in two buses after being invited to what they believed was a job interview, training session or corporate event.
One affected woman told police that participants had been offered a 25-day work opportunity involving brand stalls, with a daily payment of Rs2,000 and food. They were reportedly told that training and a meeting with their employer would take place at the farmhouse.
Phones Collected Before the Event
After the women reached the venue, an organiser allegedly instructed them to hand over their mobile phones. They were reportedly told that phones could not be used to record videos during the event.
The devices were collected at one location, and according to accounts from the participants, receipts or identification tags were attached to the phones. The women were then asked to wait for the expected organiser or employer.
Police said the organiser subsequently left the farmhouse with the collected phones. Reports identified a man named Salman as the person allegedly involved in taking the devices, although the investigation is still underway.
Police Record Statements as Investigation Continues
Following the incident, the affected women approached Gadap police, where their statements were recorded. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the event and attempting to trace the missing phones and identify those responsible.
The farmhouse management said it had been told that a corporate event involving dozens of women was being organised. Management also reportedly said it had not received payment for hosting the event and that the person who booked the venue did not remain there.
