The electricity sector’s regulator National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) is considering a petition by the Central Power Purchasing Agency‑Guarantee (CPPA-G) to revise the national power purchase price for the fiscal year 2026.
Under the proposal, the cost for electricity purchase has been estimated between Rs 25.69 and Rs 26.69 per unit, which would translate into higher tariffs for consumers.
NEPRA flagged the submission as “incomplete and deficient,” raising questions about the accuracy of data presented by CPPA-G, which was based on projections for demand, fuel costs and the rupee-dollar exchange rate.
Industry representatives warned that such a high purchase cost would keep energy expensive and hamper industrial growth. The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI) voiced concern that electricity “will not become cheaper” with the proposed rates.
Separately, NEPRA is also reviewing a request by CPPA-G for a reduction in the monthly Fuel Charges Adjustment (FCA) of up to Rs 0.6508 per unit for October 2025, which could bring some relief to consumers.
