lawyers strike Karachi Hyderabad

Lawyers in Karachi and Hyderabad observed a full-day strike on Friday, halting proceedings in the subordinate judiciary. The protest was held by bar associations in support of retired Supreme Court justices Syed Mansoor Ali Shah and Athar Minallah, who resigned over concerns about the judiciary’s independence following the passage of the 27th Amendment to the Constitution of Pakistan.

In Karachi’s city courts and Hyderabad’s district courts, no litigants were admitted and cases were widely adjourned as the legal fraternity demonstrated solidarity.

Bar officials warned that the amendment could undermine provincial autonomy and weaken high-court powers, signaling broader unrest over the direction of judicial oversight in Pakistan.
