A major fire broke out at a garment factory and cardboard warehouse near Metroville in Karachi’s SITE industrial area on Monday, October 19, 2026. The blaze intensified to the third degree, prompting an extensive firefighting operation as cracks appeared in the building’s upper-floor walls, raising concerns about a possible structural collapse.
Fire Engulfs Upper Floors of Factory
According to Rescue 1122, its Central Command and Control Centre received information about the incident at around 3 pm. A fire and rescue team, a fire brigade vehicle and an ambulance were dispatched to the location.
Chief Fire Officer Humayun Khan classified the blaze as a third-degree fire, indicating the seriousness of the emergency. The flames spread across the factory’s second and third floors, making firefighting efforts more challenging.
Cracks Raise Concerns About Building Safety
The appearance of cracks in the upper-floor walls has raised fears that parts of the building could collapse because of the intense heat. Emergency teams continued working to contain the fire while taking the risks associated with the damaged structure into account.
Firefighters also faced difficulties due to limited water availability at the scene. Additional water tankers were sent to support the operation.
Combustible Materials Intensify the Blaze
Fire brigade officials said the upper floors contained large quantities of wood, yarn, garments, foam plastic and plastic granules. These combustible materials contributed to the intensity of the fire and complicated efforts to extinguish it.
Firefighters used both water and foam to tackle the flames. The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation also activated emergency arrangements at the NIPA, Sakhi Hassan and Crush Plant hydrants to help ensure an additional water supply.
Fire Reportedly Broke Out at the Same Site Earlier
Officials said another fire had occurred at the same premises around 10 days earlier. The repeated incidents have raised questions about fire prevention measures at the facility.
As the firefighting operation continued, the immediate priorities remained containing the blaze, supplying sufficient water and addressing the risk posed by the damaged building. The available report did not confirm the final cause of the fire, the full extent of the damage or whether anyone was injured.
