In Karachi all major roads will now adhere to new speed limits, announced by Karachi Traffic Police (via its DIG, Pir Muhammad Shah). Motorcycles and light transport vehicles (LTVs) must not exceed 60 km/h, while heavy transport vehicles (HTVs) are capped at 30 km/h.
Speed-monitoring cameras and trackers are being installed city-wide: 1,717 cameras already deployed and 10,000 heavy vehicles to be tracked in real-time via the TRACS system. A month-long traffic-awareness campaign will launch on November 8 to raise public knowledge of the new rules.
