A Karachi resident was allegedly lured to Hyderabad with a fake marriage proposal and robbed by a gang posing as the bride’s family, police said. The victim, Muhammad Usman Rajput from Baldia Town, travelled to Hyderabad with his family to finalize the wedding after a woman contacted them with a marriage offer.
According to police, the groom’s family had earlier met the supposed bride Nida and her relatives and agreed on a wedding date. When they arrived at the house in Jamali Para Katchi Abadi, they were persuaded to hand over Rs250,000 in cash for wedding arrangements, while the groom also presented clothes worth Rs200,000 to the bride.
Soon after receiving the money, members of the alleged bride’s family left the house and the “bride” later disappeared with two women posing as her mother and sister. Suspecting fraud, the family sought help from locals and learned the group was involved in marriage scams targeting grooms.
Police arrested the fake bride and two women posing as relatives, while raids are underway to capture other suspects believed to be part of the gang. A fraud case has been registered and investigators suspect the group may have carried out similar matrimonial scams previously.
