Karachi double-decker buses return

Double-decker buses have returned to Karachi roads for the first time in 65 years with the launch of a new bus service aimed at improving urban commuting, officials announced on December 31, 2025. Sindh Senior Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon, alongside Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, inaugurated the service in the metropolis, fulfilling the government’s promise to reintroduce double-deckers by the end of 2025. The experimental service will be open to passengers starting January 1, 2026, and the provincial government plans to expand routes in Karachi in the new year. Memon noted that the Sindh government seeks to enhance transport facilities across major roads and will also roll out new electric vehicle bus routes in the province. The initiative is part of broader efforts to modernise public transport and ease congestion in the country’s largest city.
