GHOTKI – Police have detained several suspects in connection with the Ghotki journalist murder case involving local reporter Tufail Ahmed Rind, who was tragically shot dead in Mirpur Mathelo earlier this week.
According to sources, the Ghotki journalist murder occurred when armed men opened fire on Tufail Rind as he was taking children to school on Wednesday morning. The slain journalist, who also served as secretary of the Mirpur Mathelo Press Club, was targeted in what authorities believe was a planned attack.
Officials confirmed that police have arrested alleged facilitators linked to the Ghotki journalist murder and are currently interrogating them to identify the masterminds behind the killing.
Sources close to the investigation said the family of the deceased has chosen not to disclose certain details of the case publicly to avoid hindering the police probe. Meanwhile, the Ghotki journalist murder has sparked outrage across Sindh’s media community, calling for stronger protection for journalists.
Tragically, Tufail Rind’s eight-year-old niece, who was with him at the time of the attack, died later from shock after witnessing the brutal Ghotki journalist murder.
Police officials stated that the investigation is ongoing and that further updates will be shared soon. This latest killing adds to a disturbing pattern of violence against journalists in the region — last year, two reporters, Nasrullah Gadani and Bachal Ghuniyo, were also shot dead in separate attacks in Ghotki district.
Authorities have vowed to ensure justice for the Ghotki journalist murder, emphasizing that those responsible for targeting members of the press will be brought to account.
