Commissioner Karachi has taken strong action, issuing a notification to restrict the pricing of critical food products in the city during the holy month of Ramadan.
Following Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah’s directions, a thorough price control scheme has been launched to monitor and manage the prices of major food goods. According to the announcement, prices for major food items have been set to guarantee affordability and prevent exploitation.
Milk prices have been fixed at Rs180 per litre for dairy farmers, Rs188 for wholesalers, and Rs200 for retailers. Similarly, the wholesale price of sugar has been set at Rs123 per kg, with a retail price of Rs130. In addition to these steps, utility retailers have launched a special Ramadan relief package, which includes price discounts on a number of commodities.
This effort seeks to reduce the financial strain on customers during the holy month. These regulatory efforts addressed concerns about growing food costs ahead of Ramadan.
Flour pricing at various mills have been standardized, with X flour mill flour priced at Rs.120 wholesale and Rs.128 retail, and fine X flour mill flour priced at Rs.130 wholesale and Rs.138 retail. Additionally, mill flour is priced at Rs140 per bag in retail shops.
The announcement also mentions animal product pricing, which include goat meat at Rs1,700 per kg, goat meat (chopped) at Rs1,450, and mutton meat at Rs1,590. Live farm chicken is priced at Rs366, wholesale at Rs378, and retail at Rs386, while chicken meat costs Rs598 per kg.
