Keemo Paul

HYDERABAD, October 14, 2026: West Indies defeated India by 24 runs in the fourth T20 International (T20I), levelling the five-match series 2-2 after a commanding batting performance from captain Shai Hope and a match-winning five-wicket haul by Keemo Paul.

Batting first at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, West Indies posted an imposing 247 for three in 20 overs. India responded with 223 runs before losing nine wickets, falling short of the 248-run target.

Shai Hope Smashes Unbeaten Century

West Indies captain Shai Hope led the innings with an outstanding 102 not out off 50 balls, striking nine sixes and four boundaries. His aggressive batting kept the visitors ahead throughout the innings and gave India a difficult target to chase.

Hope received valuable support from Sherfane Rutherford, who remained unbeaten on 49 off 26 deliveries. The pair added an unbroken 91-run partnership for the fourth wicket, accelerating the scoring in the closing overs.

West Indies finished at 247/3, putting considerable pressure on India’s bowlers.

Keemo Paul Destroys India’s Batting Line-Up

India began their chase aggressively, but Keemo Paul changed the momentum by taking crucial wickets at important stages.

Sanju Samson scored a rapid 56 off 22 balls, giving India an encouraging start. Paul dismissed Samson and Ishan Kishan in the fifth over, disrupting India’s early momentum.

Gudakesh Motie also made an impact by dismissing Abhishek Sharma and Naman Dhir in successive deliveries. Paul later returned to take additional wickets, completing his five-wicket haul with figures of 5 for 41.

Tilak Varma and Nitish Reddy Offer Resistance

After the early breakthroughs, Tilak Varma and Nitish Kumar Reddy attempted to rebuild India’s innings. The pair shared a 70-run partnership, keeping the hosts in contention during the middle stages of the chase.

Varma scored 43 off 25 balls, while Reddy contributed 41 from 20 deliveries. However, their dismissals left India struggling to maintain the required scoring rate.

Paul continued to trouble the lower order, and India ultimately finished on 223 for nine, 24 runs short of the target.

West Indies Level the Five-Match Series

The victory brought the series level at 2-2, setting up a decisive fifth T20I between the teams.

India had won the opening match by eight wickets and the third match by 14 runs, while West Indies claimed victories in the second and fourth games.

The final match is scheduled for October 17 in Bengaluru, where both teams will compete to secure the series.

Hope and Paul Lead West Indies’ Comeback

Hope’s century provided the foundation for West Indies’ imposing total, while Paul’s bowling performance ensured India could not complete the chase.

For India, Samson’s explosive start and the partnership between Varma and Reddy offered promising moments, but the loss of wickets at crucial stages proved costly.

With the series tied, the fifth T20I will determine which side finishes the tour with the series victory.
