Missing Karachi boy "Sarim"

Missing Karachi boy “Sarim”: The body of seven-year-old Sarim, who had been missing for 11 days under mysterious circumstances, was discovered in an underground water tank near his apartment in North Karachi.

The police reported that the water tank’s lid was covered with a carton and are investigating whether the missing boy fell into the tank accidentally or was pushed.

The child’s body has been moved to the hospital for a postmortem to determine the cause of death.

Sarim’s family had filed a missing person’s report on January 7 after he failed to return from a nearby madrasa. The boy went missing in the North Karachi area, prompting extensive search efforts by the police. They searched all 212 flats in the apartment complex and inspected the building’s four water tanks.

A power outage during the incident hindered the investigation as CCTV footage from that time was unavailable. Authorities explored multiple angles of the case and sought CCTV footage from nearby areas.

The child’s father received suspicious calls and messages, including ransom demands for Rs 5 lakh and requests for a picture of Sarim. One caller’s phone was switched off after receiving the picture.

Sarim’s mother made a tearful plea, urging, “Whoever has taken my son, please return him.” She mentioned that while the apartment complex had CCTV cameras, they were non-operational due to the power outage.
