An enforcement drive against illegal constructions in Karachi triggered violent clashes with residents across multiple localities, leading to injuries and the suspension of the operation. Initially, in Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA)’s site at Karachi Administration Employees Society, workers attempting to remove illicit extensions were attacked — four SBCA personnel were hurt and hospitalized.
In another area, Sector 48-B in Karachi Development Authority (KDA)’s jurisdiction, anti-encroachment and police teams came under assault; one police officer’s uniform was torn during the confrontation.
Further clashes unfolded on M.A. Jinnah Road, where individuals set fire to a police vehicle transporting confiscated goods, destroying both the truck and its contents.
Authorities declared that legal proceedings will be initiated against those responsible and emphasised that anti-encroachment efforts will continue despite the violence.
