DIG Admin Sindh Police pays a visit to KU’s forensic DNA lab

KARACHI: DIG Imran Yaqub, the administrator of Sindh Police, paid visits to the Sindh Forensic DNA and Serology Laboratory (SFDL) and the Industrial Analytical Center (IAC) at the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi.

Prof. Dr. Farzana Shaheen, Director of ICCBS at the University of Karachi, greeted the police officer, as did Dr. Ishtiaq Ahmad Khan, Project Director and In-charge of SFDL, and Dr. Shakil Ahmed, In-charge of IAC.

A spokesman for the ICCBS, University of Karachi, stated on Thursday that the DIG Police had arrived on an official visit and had met with Prof. Farzana Shaheen and other authorities.

During the discussion, a higher-level police officer praised the extent and quality of work at both Centers. Prof. Farzana Shaheen emphasized the importance of strong collaboration among all stakeholders in order to reap the benefits of the ICCBS’s world-class forensic capabilities.

She stated that the SFDL frequently organizes training sessions for judges, prosecutors, medico-legal officers, crime scene investigators, and investigation officers on how to collect samples correctly and present evidence effectively in court.

The ICCBS officers discussed the SFDL and IAC’s ability to conduct analysis in the complete range of forensic DNA and serology, foods, drugs, narcotics, toxicology, and traces, as needed in the inquiry.

The DIG Admin presented on the Sindh Police’s efforts to create an integrated platform to simplify sample submission and reporting in instances requiring forensic analysis.
