The SP Adeel Akbar suicide case has shocked Islamabad after the senior police officer tragically took his own life early Thursday morning. According to police sources, SP Adeel Akbar shot himself while at his residence, despite being under psychiatric treatment.
Reports reveal that around ten days before the SP Adeel Akbar suicide, he had visited a psychiatrist who advised him to avoid keeping a firearm and to continue his prescribed medication. The officer had been battling severe depression, allegedly triggered by growing professional stress. He had also recently been diagnosed with dengue fever, further intensifying his health challenges.
During his last psychiatric consultation, attended by his wife and daughter, SP Adeel Akbar reportedly expressed deep frustration over his increasing workload and ongoing job-related pressures.
A post-mortem conducted at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) confirmed that SP Adeel Akbar sustained a single bullet wound from the front. Police officials stated that he used a staff-issued pistol and unfortunately succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital.
The motive behind the SP Adeel Akbar suicide remains unclear. Islamabad’s Inspector General (IG) visited PIMS as investigations continue to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
