Karachi: The sale and flying of kites has been restricted in Karachi after the commissioner enforced a ban claiming multiple serious injuries caused by slack kite strings, as reported by ARY News.
From March 30 to May 29, Section 144 CrPC prohibits the manufacture, selling, and flying of kites across the city.
The decision was made in reaction to the increased hazards to residents’ lives caused by the usage of dangerous metal strings in kite flying, according to the Karachi Commissioner.
Recent occurrences of injuries caused by unsecured metal strings during kite flying have prompted the authorities to take action by enforcing the prohibition.
On March 27, a teenager in Karachi was taken to the hospital after getting seriously hurt by a loose kite string while riding a motorcycle in the Azizabad neighbourhood.
The victim, 20-year-old Awais, became caught in a kite string while riding, requiring hospitalization. Fortunately, his condition was found to be stable following medical treatment.
In another incident, a small kid was injured by a loose kite string while riding a motorcycle with his father in the Nazimabad region, forcing his emergency hospitalization.
Furthermore, following a terrible occurrence in Faisalabad in which a young man died as a result of a similar kite string incident, Punjab police have launched a crackdown against kite flying throughout the province.
In reaction to these instances, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has imposed a ban on the manufacture, sale, and procurement of chemicals used in kite flying.
In addition, a Punjab police officer in charge of an inquiry was arrested for allegedly taking bribes from chemical kite string makers in Faisalabad.
A special police squad took action against Ibrahim, the investigation in-charge stationed at Ghulam Mohammadabad police station, and caught him red-handed taking bribes from manufacturers, ARY News claimed.
