Shahryar M. Khan, a renowned diplomat and former Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), has died at the age of 89 in Lahore. His family announced his death, capping a remarkable journey that saw him play crucial roles in both cricket and diplomacy.
Shahryar Khan was born on March 29, 1934, in Lucknow, India, and had his early schooling there before moving to England to pursue further studies. Following the partition of India, he moved to Pakistan and resided in Karachi, where he began a prominent diplomatic career.
Aside from serving as Pakistan’s Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Shahryar Khan made an indelible impression on the cricketing scene by managing the national team and chairing the PCB twice.
His contributions to cricket diplomacy between Pakistan and India, which are highlighted by his familial links to former Indian captain Nawab Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, are well known.
Shahryar Khan’s health worsened rapidly on Saturday morning, resulting in his death. He is survived by his spouse and four children.p
