In Karachi, mercury rises to 37.5 degrees Celsius

Karachi

KARACHI: The Met Office predicts a shift in wind direction on Wednesday (today) throughout the city, providing some relief from the hot weather.

The maximum temperature was 37.5 degrees Celsius, the highest recorded this month.

“The temperature is likely to drop slightly on Wednesday [today] as the wind shifts from north-northerly to southwesterly,” stated Chief Meteorologist Dr. S. Sarfaraz.

He said that dry, scorching winds from the desert had boosted the temperature.

“The restoration of the sea breeze has already begun.” We are anticipating nice weather starting Wednesday for a few days,” he continued. He dismissed social media chatter regarding the coming of a heatwave beginning March 21.

“Even this brief period of hot weather could hardly be classified as a heatwave. This occurrence is observed when the temperature persists at least five degrees above the month’s average temperature for five days in a row,” he stated.

According to him, the average temperature in March is 32.6°C. The latest hot weather conditions lasted for three days and with temperatures ranging from 36 to 37 degrees Celsius.

The last ten days of March were typically hot, serving as a transition period for the shifting weather.

On Wednesday, the weather is anticipated to be fair to partly cloudy.
