US troops and Iran-backed militias battle in Syria

US

US troops and Iran-backed rebels in east Syria, as per local reports, exchanged fire on the eve of Wednesday. According to reports, Iranian-backed armed groups conducted a rocket strike on the Conoco gas field in Deir ez-Zor province, where US soldiers are stationed. Although smoke rose from the base, there were no recorded injuries or damage.

In response, US-led coalition fighter planes bombed Iranian-backed forces’ military positions in Deir ez-Zor. The US Army has yet to comment on the event.

This conversation comes after a number of recent drone and missile strikes on US sites in Syria, which are believed to have been carried out by Iranian-backed organizations.

The US-backed troops PKK/YPG largely controls Deir ez-Zor, although the city core and surrounding rural regions are still under the control of Syria’s Bashar al-Assad regime and Iranian-backed militias.

In April 2024, four rockets were launched from Iraq toward a US military post in northern Syria. The attack, launched from Zummar, was the first against US forces since early February, when Iranian-backed militants in Iraq called off a campaign of regular strikes against the US-led multinational coalition. – supernews.pk
