Two Afghan brothers killed in ‘targeted attack’ in Karachi

Karachi

KARACHI: Two brothers were shot dead in a suspected targeted assault in Federal B Area, which is under the jurisdiction of the Samanabad police station, on Friday evening, police said.

Central SSP Zeeshan Shafiq Siddiqi confirmed to Dawn that Jamal Deen and Hayatullah were slain by unknown attackers.

He stated that the victims were Afghan nationals who lived in Sohrab Goth. They arrived at a car rental shop in the adjoining Federal B Area’s Block 20 to assess a vehicle to be rented for a wedding ceremony when two assailants on motorcycles appeared.

The SSP stated that the perpetrators shot them in the head, killing them on the scene.

He stated that the remains were sent to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for post-mortem examination.

He ruled out any robbery attempt, stating that the killers appeared to be following the couple from Sohrab Goth.

He said, using eyewitness accounts, that the killers seemed to be Afghans.

He viewed personal animosity as the likely motivation for the double murder. However, investigations were ongoing, he noted.

Meanwhile, Saudabad police said on Friday that they had detained a suspected robber in connection with two deaths.

Korangi SSP Hassan Sardar Niazi stated that the police used technology to apprehend Bibar alias Dilbar.

“The held suspect is part of a three-member gang of robbers involved in murder, attempted murders and robberies,” added the police officer.

During the initial investigation, he admitted to killing Nabeel on February 24 due to his resistance at Saudabad. He was also engaged in the murder of Mohammed Arif, a government employee, in 2023.
