In Karachi, street violence is on the rise due to rampant muggers who pillage and kill without hesitation. In the most recent cases, two people were slain during attempted robberies in various parts of town on Friday.
In the first incident, thieves shot and killed a teenage motorcyclist at Al Asr Tower on Jinnah Avenue, outside Malir Cantt. The wounded was brought to the CMH in Malir Cantt, where he died from his injuries despite medics’ best attempts.
The body was then sent to the JPMC for medico-legal processing. Shoaib Shafqat, 29, was working as an engineer at a textile plant when he died. He was from Mirpurkhas but resided in a housing complex on Superhighway.
According to police, Shoaib was going home from seeing his cousin in Malir Cantt when three thieves on a motorcycle stopped him near Al Asr Tower on Jinnah Avenue. Shoaib raced his motorcycle in an attempt to flee, but the vicious thieves shot him in the back.
Dr Farrukh Raza, the District East SSP, stated that investigations have begun, but the motivations for the killing remain unknown.
In a second incident, armed bandits opened fire during a looting attempt in Orangi Town’s Christian Mohalla, killing one and wounded another. The casualties were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where the deceased was identified as 35-year-old Akhtar, son of James, and the injured as Abid, 22, son of Nizam.
According to preliminary inquiry, District West SSP Hafeezur Rehman Bugti stated that Akhtar was seated outside his home with his nephew when two motorcycle-borne criminals attempted to steal his cell phone. Akhtar refused, resulting in a skirmish that forced the thieves to open fire, tragically striking Akhtar in the eye.
Karachi: SSP Bugti stated that they had received CCTV video from the area and that the perpetrators will be identified with its assistance.
