Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Qazi Faez Isa reacted to Commissioner Rawalpindi Liaqat Ali Chatha’s claims of ‘rigging’ in the 2024 General Elections.
In a statement, the CJP stated that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is responsible for holding elections under the constitution. “The claims against me are unfounded. “Commissioner Rawalpindi should provide evidence to determine what is right or wrong,” he added.
“Commissioner Rawalpindi did not provide any proof. He may make theft or murder claims tomorrow. “If it is his right to accuse someone, he must also provide evidence,” Justice Qazi Faez Isa said.
The CJP stated that petitions on suspected anomalies and rigging are being submitted, and the judiciary would resolve them in accordance with the law.
Earlier in the day, Rawalpindi Commissioner Liaqat Ali Chatha accused the Chief Justice of Pakistan and the Chief Election Commissioner of ‘rigging’.
On Saturday, Liaqat Ali Chatha resigned and submitted to authorities, stating, “I accept responsibility for rigging the election 2024.”
