Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced a significant change in its plans for February 8, deciding to organize a major rally in Swabi rather than Lahore. The date marks the first anniversary of last year’s general elections. The party emphasized its commitment to avoiding any confrontation or unrest on this day.

Initially, PTI had sought permission to hold a public gathering at Minar-e-Pakistan in Lahore. Deputy Commissioner Syed Musa Raza denied the request, citing concerns about public order. Lahore had several major events lined up, including a cricket match, an international speaker conference, and a horse and cattle show, all requiring heightened security.

In response to the denial, PTI shifted its focus to Swabi, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, inviting supporters from across the country to participate. General Secretary Salman Akram Raja confirmed that the party would restrict its rally activities to Swabi while holding peaceful protests at the tehsil and union council levels. He reassured the public that no disruptive actions were planned.

Omar Ayub, the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, addressed PTI supporters via video message, declaring February 8 a “Black Day” in protest against alleged vote manipulation during the previous elections. He urged party members to gather in Swabi at 2 pm on Saturday to express solidarity with PTI Chairman Imran Khan.

Meanwhile, authorities in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa have directed government officials, including police personnel, to refrain from participating in political events or rallies. Authorities have directed security forces not to facilitate or attend political gatherings.
