Punjab Police arrested Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Latif Khosa and Salman Akram Raja during the party’s protests in Lahore on Sunday.
Balakh Sher Khosa, Latif Khosa’s son, confirmed his father’s detention and voiced worry over the situation.
“It has come to our attention that Sardar Latif Khosa has been detained, an act that is completely unacceptable,” said party head Sher Afzal Marwat on his official X account.
Marwat asked Punjab authorities to stop what he called “unfair behaviour,” claiming that peaceful protest was their fundamental right.
Salman Akram Raja, another major PTI leader, was apprehended by authorities. Advocate Muhammad Mehr Salim was one of those detained with Raja.
Meanwhile, PTI supporters and activists held protests and demonstrations around the nation, including in Rawalpindi, Karachi, Kandhkot, Tank, and other cities.
According to media sources, authorities in Lahore maintained a large police presence on Mall Road and adjoining areas to preserve peace, leading to the arrest of numerous PTI workers at GPO Chowk.
Similar preparations were undertaken in Karachi, where police and Sindh Rangers were stationed outside the Korangi Deputy Commissioner’s office ahead of the expected demonstration.
Tensions rose in Rawalpindi as PTI protestors battled with police after being denied admission into the city via the Khanna Pul route. Several party members were arrested, only to be freed later.
In Tank, PTI supporters marched from Sabir Bazaar to the Town Hall grounds to voice their displeasure.
Protests broke out in Faisalabad, Vehari, Khushab, Islamabad, Multan, Gujranwala, and other places, demonstrating broad unhappiness among PTI supporters with the alleged voting irregularities.
