PPP leader Khurshid Shah said the party would help if PTI founder Imran Khan were willing to talk.
“It’s reported that Imran Khan is ready to communicate. If he is, that’s a good thing. President Asif Ali Zardari has always tried to solve problems through discussions, and the PPP will help if needed,” Shah told reporters in Quetta. His comments come as Khan’s party takes a tough stance against the PML-N government, which the PPP, MQM-P, and others support.
Since his removal in 2022, Khan’s party has criticized the PPP-PML-N coalition. The political divide grew after the February 8 elections, where the two parties formed a power-sharing government.
In April, PTI’s Shehryar Afridi said on “Naya Pakistan” that the previous government wanted to talk with the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Director General of ISI, not the dismissed leaders. He claimed the current rulers were controlled from afar and used “Form 47” to reach parliament.
Next month, PTI’s Secretary General Omar Ayub confirmed that Khan had given an important task to former President Dr. Arif Alvi. Last month, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar said that Khan had, in fact, approved talks with the government. However, despite these claims, the party’s refusal to negotiate with the “Form-47 government” persists. Instead, they continue to prefer working with military leaders. On Saturday, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur urged state entities to stay neutral for the country’s progress.
Gandapur’s comments matched Khan’s stance. His sister, Aleema Khan, said outside Adiala jail, “Please be impartial for the sake of the country. Stay neutral, allowing the country to grow on its own.”
The government has invited Khan’s party to the table for discussions.
Shah said it would be great if Khan believed politicians must sit together for talks. supernews
