PM Shehbaz Sharif announced a three-month electricity relief package on Friday to encourage energy consumption during the low-demand winter months of December, January, and February.
The plan provides family clients with a set fee of Rs26.07 per unit for extra power usage. Protected category users consuming over 200 units get discounts up to Rs26.7 per unit, saving Rs11.42–Rs26 per unit.
PM Shehbaz emphasized that this initiative aims to boost economic growth by enhancing agriculture, industry, business, and exports. He highlighted the package as a vital component of the government’s broader economic plan, fostering resilience and long-term development.
The Prime Minister thanked the IMF for approving the package and praised his cabinet’s efforts in its implementation.
PM Shehbaz noted record-high $8 billion foreign remittances in the first fiscal quarter, reduced inflation at 6.7%, and a lowered policy rate of 15%. These, he stated, will encourage further investment and development.
The PM announced the relief package during celebrations for Allama Iqbal’s birth anniversary. He praised Iqbal’s timeless philosophy and urged youth to embrace his teachings for a prosperous future. The evening featured renditions of Iqbal’s poetry by Shehzad Roy and young vocalists Mahnoor Altaf and Ashir Sultan.
Concluding his address, PM Shehbaz reaffirmed the government’s focus on education in AI, IT, and vocational training to prepare Pakistan for global economic challenges.
