The Sindh government has made a big step towards women’s empowerment by introducing two additional routes for the Pink Bus Service, which is exclusively for women. Female travellers can now use this service free of charge for two months.

This project, part of the Peoples Bus Service, seeks to offer safe and convenient transportation for women throughout the region.

New Routes

The new routes link Powerhouse Chowrangi in North Karachi to Nasir Jump in Korangi, and Gulshan-e-Hadeed to Tower, extending the Pink Bus Service’s reach to new neighbourhoods. With five routes fully running and a fleet of ten new buses, thousands more women are likely to benefit from this service along these congested routes.

During the inaugural event at Frere Hall Karachi, Faryal Talpur, leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party women’s section, praised the program as a “gift from the Sindh government to women.” She underlined the necessity of providing secure and pleasant travel choices for women, claiming that such facilities are critical for societal progress and success.

Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon offered a two-month free travel offer for all female customers on the new lines in response to Ms. Talpur’s request for lower pricing. The event was also attended by Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab, Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad, and Sindh Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah.

Minister Memon emphasized that the Pink Bus Service is consistent with the PPP’s agenda, which pledges female empowerment. The service, which debuted in February 2023, presently operates on five routes that traverse through prominent locations such as Model Colony, II Chundrigar Road, Indus Hospital, Sea View Beach, and Ibrahim Hyderi.

The Pink Bus Service not only offers women safe and economical transportation, but it also represents the government’s dedication to gender equality and empowerment.

The Sindh government hopes to make a concrete difference in the lives of women throughout the province by expanding its reach and providing free travel for a limited time.
