LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Monday sent Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) member Punjab Assembly Hafiz Farhat Abbas on a two-day physical remand in a case relating to firing on the police party and vandalism during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) protest against ‘rigging’ in the elections.

According to the information, the police presented the MPA who joined the SIC after being elected as a PTI-backed independent candidate to the ATC and requested his physical remand. The police stated that the accused MPA’s custody was essential for the investigation.

The ATC court released Hafiz Farhat Abbas to police on a two-day physical remand and ordered investigators to bring him on March 13.

Meanwhile, the ATC cleared the other suspects of the accusations. The SIC MPA and others have been booked at Anarkali police station under the Anti-Terrorism Act of 1997.

Earlier on March 10, PTI leaders Salman Akram Raja and Sardar Latif Khosa were detained during widespread rallies over suspected election cheating and mandate snatching.

PTI officials and workers rushed to the streets across the country, holding demonstrations in Punjab towns like as Rawalpindi and Islamabad, as well as protests in Karachi, Kandhkot, Tank, and other places.

In Karachi, police and Sindh Rangers have been positioned in front of the Korangi Deputy Commissioner’s office in preparation of a PTI protest.
