In reaction to Sindh’s extreme heatwave alarm, the Karachi Board of Secondary Education has stated that the ongoing matriculation examinations would be postponed.
The examinations, originally planned for May 21-27, have been postponed to preserve the students’ safety and well-being.
The decision to postpone the tests was decided in response to directions from the minister of education boards, who stressed the need of safeguarding children from the excessive heat. The heatwave is expected to bring dangerously high temperatures, leading officials to take preventative precautions.
The matriculation examinations will continue on May 28, according to the original timetable. The Board of Secondary Education informed students and parents that the postponed examinations will be rescheduled, with new dates to be notified in due course.
The postponement is intended to mitigate health concerns related with the heatwave, as temperatures in Karachi and other regions of Sindh are projected to climb dramatically.
The Sindh government postponed intermediate examinations across the province, including Karachi, on Sunday owing to the region’s extreme heat wave.
The tests, which were initially set for May 22, will now begin on May 27. The decision was made on the proposal of Muhammad Ali Malkani, Minister of Universities and Boards, and confirmed by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.
The Universities and Boards Department issued a notice to implement the modifications. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has issued a heat wave warning for severe temperatures throughout Punjab and Sindh.
