The Met Department has issued a warning about the possibility of a heat wave in Karachi from May 29 to 31.
Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz stated that the weather in the city would continue scorching today, with temperatures forecast to hit 40 to 42 degrees Celsius.
In addition to Karachi, other districts in Sindh, including Qamber Shahdadkot, Larkana, Shikarpur, and Jacobabad, are forecast to see temperatures 6 to 8 degrees above usual. Furthermore, locations such as Khairpur, Sanghar, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, and Tharparkar may see temperatures 4 to 6 degrees Celsius higher.
Sarfaraz also cautioned that the heat will be particularly intense on May 29 and 30. Residents are reminded to take steps to avoid heat-related ailments during this period of high temperatures.
Despite the present heat wave, the chief meteorologist expressed hope that the weather will improve after June 10 to 15. This prognosis provides some relief to locals who are bracing themselves for the following days of extreme heat.
Meanwhile, the Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a warning, stating that the heat wave in Punjab continues today. According to a PDMA representative, temperatures are forecast to rise between 45 and 50 degrees Celsius, exacerbating the heatwave’s impact on the region.
The spokesman further stated that certain districts, including as Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Multan, may see exceptionally harsh circumstances. In response, the PDMA is aggressively striving to secure the availability of clean water in impacted regions, with a focus on districts such as Cholistan.
