KARACHI: Sindh police claimed to have apprehended the group responsible for many robbery events in Karachi.
Uzair Ahmed, Superintendent of Police (SP) Clifton, stated in a news conference that he had detained a group engaging in street crimes in Karachi’s South District.
SP Clifton revealed that the police had successfully recovered gold worth Rs 2 million looted from a residence, a car stolen from a dealership, and Rs 6.5 million from the accused criminal gang.
Previously, Rangers and police detained a guy reportedly engaged in over 200 robberies in the city during a raid in the Manzoor Colony neighbourhood.
Rangers spokesman, while outlining the action taken by law enforcement agencies (LEAs), stated that Asif Zaman was detained in a combined raid in Manzoor Colony and was engaged in over 200 incidences of dacoity, street crime, and other criminal actions.
“We recovered a weapon used in robberies from his possession,” the official stated.
He detailed some of his illegal deeds, claiming that Asif Zaman committed dacoity on MA Jinnah Road on April 3 and 7, looting a bakery and dairy business.
“We used nearby CCTV footage of these acts to apprehend the suspect,” he added, noting that it showed four men plundering a guy at gunpoint.
“He had committed 60 robberies along with his accomplices,” the Rangers officer said, adding that one of his accomplices, Zeeshan Malik, had already been caught by Rangers.
The suspect was turned over to authorities, along with the confiscated weapon, for further legal proceedings.
The LEAs in Karachi had already detained criminals reportedly involved in robberies and other terrible crimes.
In one such case, on March 3, police claimed to have apprehended a five-member gang responsible for many homicides and rapes during robberies in the port city.

The individuals apprehended have been named as Shayan Shani, Danyal Chand, Shan Masih, Emmanuel, and James alias Jimmy.
Senior Superintendent of Police (East) Suhai Aziz Talpur stated that five various types of firearms, two motorbikes, over Rs300,000 cash, and plundered goods were taken from their hands.
She stated that the accused were engaged in over 20 incidences of terrible crimes. On February 6, they killed Farooq, a property trader, during a robbery attempt and fled with six mobile phones and Rs60,000 in cash.
