Karachi Heatwave: At Least 20 Dead in Scorching Weather

Karachi heatwave has resulted in the deaths of at least 20 people in Pakistan’s largest metropolis over the past 48 hours, with dozens more suffering from heatstroke, police reported on Tuesday.

Emergency officials discovered 10 additional dead bodies on the streets of Karachi and other locations on Tuesday, following the 10 bodies transported to the morgue on Monday. All of the deceased are probable victims of the ongoing Karachi heatwave, with temperatures soaring above 40 degrees Celsius.

Rescuers and health officials confirmed that the bodies showed no visible injuries. “Most of the bodies are regular drug users who died from prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures in the city and lay on footpaths or roadsides,” said Summaiya Syed, a police surgeon

Dr. Syed also noted that the 20 deceased exhibited no signs of damage, indicating they were drug users who died on streets or roadsides, further highlighting the severity of the Karachi heatwave
The meteorological bureau reported Karachi’s hottest temperature on Monday at 42 degrees Celsius, a degree higher than Sunday’s 41 degrees Celsius, which is unusually high for coastal cities like Karachi.

In addition to the fatalities, Dr. Syed reported that emergency rooms in three government hospitals were receiving a high volume of heatstroke cases due to the Karachi heatwave.
