Karachi: Brothers murder sister for freewill marriage

Karachi

KARACHI: A lady was slain, and her daughter and husband were wounded after her brothers opened fire on them inside their house over freewill marriage.

According to police, the woman’s brothers invaded the freewill marriage couple’s home in the Rais Goth locality of Keamri Town in Karachi before iftar on Sunday and started fire on them.

The mother was slain in the incident, while her husband and daughter, Mahnoor, were injured.

Meanwhile, police reported that the culprits had fled the scene and were at large.

In February of this year, a man shot dead his niece and daughter-in-law in the sake of honor during their court appearance in Punjab’s Pakpatan city.

The deceased victim, who had entered into a freewill marriage with Zahid Nawaz, arrived in court to record her statement but was shot dead on the court grounds by her uncle.

In a similar occurrence in 2021, a couple who married on their own free choice was allegedly targeted at Shahra-e-Faisal in Karachi by the girl’s relatives, murdering the guy and wounding her.

According to the authorities, the fire event targeted a freewill marriage pair, killing the husband Waseem and injuring his wife, Kausar.

“Father, brother, cousin, maternal and paternal uncles of the girl allegedly opened fire on the vehicle at Shahra-e-Faisal,” the statement read.
