IG Sindh forms’specialized force’ to combat street crime in Karachi

KARACHI: In reaction to the recent spike in street crime incidences in Karachi, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) has begun a planned crackdown and organized a specialized team to deal with criminals in the metropolis.

Ghulam Nabi Memon, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh, called a high-level conference of the city’s senior police officers.

During the meeting, IGP Memon strategically assigned the job of handling the most crucial cases to a team of 67 officers from Karachi’s police force, with a total of 60 policemen being sent from other districts, as well as seven elite SIU members.

Among the important directions given by IG Memon, the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) has been tasked with apprehending the suspects in the robbery-resistance murder case, following which the murder on resisting robbery would be immediately transferred to SIU.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Adeel Chandio will play a key role in directing the investigation against the perpetrators.

IG Memon has emphasized the necessity of resolving cases in a timely manner; each investigating officer is assigned to handle 10 to 12 cases concurrently in order to speed the investigative process and bring culprits to justice without unnecessary delay.

IG Memon has devised a detailed plan for allocating resources and staff to guarantee that cases are resolved quickly and efficiently.

Furthermore, IG Memon has promised considerable incentives to inspire and equip personnel with critical resources including as laptops and gasoline allowances, as well as monetary prizes.

IG Ghulam Nabi Memon underlined the significance of assigning skilled junior officers to assist with case building.

He stressed that incidents falling under the authority of any officer will be thoroughly probed under his supervision.

Furthermore, IG Memon declared his plan to seek the government for the creation of specialist courts to handle these urgent cases.

He emphasized the need of fast justice and the necessity to expedite procedures, stressing that instances that had been pending for 5.5 years were unacceptable.

Furthermore, IG Memon presided over the decision-making process throughout the meeting, demonstrating his dedication to tackling the critical issues confronting law enforcement in Karachi.

IG Memon has pledged to work with government stakeholders to secure the necessary backing for these projects.
