Father of four slain in crossfire between police and bandits in Karachi

Karachi

On Saturday, a bystander was murdered after a confrontation between police and armed muggers along the Ayub Goth river in Karachi’s Sohrab Goth district.

Police apprehended one of the injured suspects and seized guns from his hands. This new tragedy takes the total number of individuals killed in street robberies to 48 this year.

According to Shahzad Ilyas, SHO of Sohrab Goth Police Station, two armed muggers on a motorbike attempted to flee after perpetrating a heist in Ayub Goth. A police patrol saw the culprits and attempted to detain them, causing the thieves to open fire. A gunshot struck an innocent bystander, identified as Kanchi, killing him instantly.

Local neighbors assisted police in pursuing the fleeing culprits. After a brief chase, police approached them again, resulting in another round of shooting. One of the accused, Naseem Abdul Ghafoor, was injured in the crossfire and later apprehended. Police retrieved two weapons and a motorbike from his possession, while the second suspect fled on foot.

The dead, Kanchi, was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for a post-mortem examination before being handed over to his family.

Speaking to the journalists at the hospital, Kanchi’s brother said that the deceased was a factory worker who left behind a widow, three girls, and one son. The tragic incident occurred when Kanchi was returning home from work.

The deceased family has called on authorities to capture and convict all perpetrators engaged in the crime. Alarmingly, 48 people have died this year as a result of robberies, including a little child and a police officer.
