Andrew Schofer, Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) of the United States Mission in Pakistan, wrapped off a four-day visit to Karachi by emphasizing the US commitment to improving connections, advancing democracy, economic growth, and female empowerment in the area.

Schofer reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to extending its engagement with Pakistan, emphasizing shared goals such as democracy, inclusive economic growth, and regional stability.

“This visit to Karachi reflects our commitment to continued engagement with diverse stakeholders and reinforcing our bilateral ties,” he was quoted as saying in a statement published by the US Consulate General in Karachi on Friday.

One key part of the visit was the United States’ assistance to the people of Sindh in the aftermath of climatic catastrophes and flood recovery operations. Since 2022, the United States has provided more than $215 million in aid to Sindh, focusing on education, clean water, malnutrition, and healthcare needs. DCM Schofer emphasized the significance of delivering relief during emergencies and fostering resilience in afflicted areas.

DCM Schofer paid a visit to the USAID-supported Terry Tex International firm in Karachi to highlight the United States’ commitment to economic development for women. The tour demonstrated how USAID’s assistance can empower local firms, promote growth, and create possibilities for female entrepreneurs.

DCM Schofer also met with dynamic youth leaders at the Pakistan American Cultural Center’s Lincoln Corner, where he facilitated important talks. This engagement demonstrates the US commitment to interacting with Pakistan’s dynamic young and supporting their projects.

The Deputy Chief of Mission used the opportunity to meet with representatives from the commercial sector and civil society in a variety of areas, including banking, pharmaceuticals, and textiles. These discussions highlighted the significance of inclusive private sector-led growth, trade, and investment between Pakistan and the United States.

DCM Schofer met with UNHCR officials to discuss difficulties affecting Afghan refugees in Pakistan, highlighting the US commitment to tackling humanitarian challenges. The visit underlined the United States’ commitment to providing aid and support in partnership with international agencies.

In a unique encounter with the Parsi community in Karachi, DCM Schofer learned about the city’s varied religious and cultural fabric. This event provided an excellent chance to promote harmony and gratitude among Karachi’s residents.
