Dr. Saima Saleem from KU has won the ‘Woman of the Year’ award

KARACHI: The Russian House in Pakistan named Professor Dr. Saima Saleem Woman of the Year 2024.

She is affiliated with the University of Karachi’s Dr. A. Q. Khan Institute of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering and serves as Secretary of the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World—Pakistan National Chapter.

The Russian Centre for Science and Culture, also known as Friendship House, was founded by the Russian government to facilitate cultural interaction and collaboration between Russia and Pakistan.

The Woman of the Year award recognizes Professor Dr. Saima Saleem’s outstanding contributions to biological sciences and her unrelenting dedication to encouraging women in STEM.

Earlier, the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) expressed alarm about a polio case reported in Balochistan’s Dera Bugti area.

This is the first polio case registered in the country in 2024. It emphasizes the critical need for expanded immunization initiatives and improved public awareness.
