KARACHI: On Saturday, the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) claimed to have detained a suspected terrorist from the newly founded Karachi branch of the proscribed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
Law enforcement officers raided the SITE area and detained Hidayatullah, also known as Maulana Abdul Hakeem.
“The held suspect is in charge of educational affairs for the TTP-Karachi,” according to a CTD statement.
It stated that he was apprehended while soliciting money for the illegal TTP. The cops claimed to have found Rs6,000 and a receipt book in his hands.
According to DIG-CTD Asif Ejaz Sheikh, the outlawed TTP stated less than two months ago that it had founded its Karachi chapter, “TTP Karachi-State”.
He stated that the outlawed party had also revealed the names of its cabinet members, with the detained suspect Hidayatullah appointed as minister of education.
The CTD added that the suspect’s father, Ghaus Mohammed, was murdered during the Afghan conflict.
His brother, Kifayatullah, remained a close associate of TTP-Swat head Molvi Fazlullah.
Kifayatullah’s location were unknown following the commencement of the Swat operation.
On Friday, the CTD apprehended two individuals in Sohrab Goth for allegedly collecting cash for the proscribed TTP. It claimed that they were in ‘communication’ with the TTP leadership in Afghanistan via social media networks and had lately returned from Waziristan. – supernews
