KARACHI: Stage one of the Greater Karachi Bulk Water Supply Scheme (K-IV) project is expected to be completed in 2025.

According to authorities, substantial progress was being made on this vital project, with stage-1 supplying 260 million gallon per day (MGD) to Karachi.

Similarly, stage 2 will provide 390 MGD of water to Karachi, they claimed. The Water and Power Development Authority was in charge of carrying out this crucial project.

They stated that when both stages are completed, a total of 650 MGD would be given to Karachi. The project cost Rs126 billion, of which more than Rs40 billion has already been spent.

It is worth noting that the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) government approved the K-IV water supply project in 2014 at a cost of Rs25.552 billion, with a 50% share from the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) government. In the 2014-15 budget, Rs849 million was allocated for this project.
