The Karachi commissioner fined 137 profiteers ahead of Ramzan

Karachi commissioner Saleem Rajput on Sunday fined up to 137 profiteers in the port city in a drive started ahead of Ramzan.

According to information, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah ordered the crackdown in Karachi’s east, west, south, Malir, Kemari, and Korangi districts.

During the action, the Karachi commissioner fined 137 profiteers Rs 800,000. Saleem Rajput pledged to continue the crackdown on profiteers and cautioned shops to sell supplies at the government-fixed pricing.

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will convene in Peshawar tomorrow (March 11) to observe the sighting of the Ramzan moon.

Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, the committee’s chairman, will preside over the meeting, which will begin following the Asr prayers.

Meanwhile, several zonal committees will meet in their respective territories to accept and evaluate moon sighting claims.

If the crescent is visible, the holy month will begin on March 12th (Tuesday).
