NEPRA ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority has imposed a Rs10 million fine on the National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC) over negligence in maintenance work that led to serious accidents. An inquiry into multiple incidents caused by inadequate safety measures found NTDC responsible for failing to adhere to standard operating procedures. The negligence resulted in power disruptions and posed risks to public safety. The fine serves as a warning to ensure stricter compliance with maintenance protocols and prevent future mishaps in the power transmission sector.
The regulatory authority has directed NTDC to submit the fine within three months, stating that the company failed to follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) during maintenance activities. Additionally, it has ordered compensation for affected employees and their families, emphasizing that violating safety protocols breaches the NEPRA Act. The incidents have raised serious concerns about NTDC’s performance and operational efficiency.
NTDC, operating under Pakistan’s Ministry of Energy, was separated from WAPDA in 1998. It manages all 220 KV and 500 KV grid stations and transmission lines across the country.
With this action, NEPRA reinforces its commitment to enforcing safety regulations and accountability in the power sector.
