After years of rumours in paradise, Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik and former Indian tennis star Sania Mirza have officially split up. Mirza’s family confirmed the divorce shortly after Malik announced his marriage to Pakistani actress Sana Javed on Instagram.
While internet users deal with the unexpected event, many have shown their support for Mirza and praised her for taking the risk of playing a cross-border match in the face of criticism. As admirers piece together speculations about when the relationship began to deteriorate, previous interviews of both Mirza and Malik are making rounds on social media.
Mirza’s open words about marrying a Pakistani guy were captured in a leaked film from October 2022. Speaking with host Kamiya Jani at the tennis player’s Dubai home, Mirza discussed the backlash she received shortly after her marriage to Malik.
“It was difficult because of what was stated, the media, and all of it. But when you’re in love, not much matters,” Mirza thought. “That is the honest truth. When you’re in love, you don’t think clearly. You think, ‘We’re in love and want to marry,’ and that’s exactly how it was for us and our family. “They were like kids who liked each other.”
She went on, “But once it happened, we realized that it wasn’t like that for everyone.” And it struck us as unusual at the time that it was touching so many people’s lives.” Mirza claimed that, despite the harsh reactions to her marriage, she fondly remembers those early years.
“So it was a trying period, but it was also one of the most joyful times in our life…”I remember the good more than the bad,” she explained. The sports star was also questioned if her marriage has ever had an unfavorable effect on her game.
Mirza said, “I’m very good at compartmentalizing, and I think that’s one of the secrets of being a mother and a working professional; we all do it…when you’re with your child, you’re just a mother.” “But then you put your heels on and become an entrepreneur.”
