Karachi Bans Double Parking to Tackle Traffic Woes

Karachi Bans Double Parking

Karachi Bans Double Parking on the city’s busiest roads to ease traffic congestion. Commissioner Karachi, Hassan Naqvi, stressed the importance of improved traffic management and stricter enforcement of parking regulations during a recent meeting.

DIG Traffic Karachi, Ahmed Nawaz, reported that Karachi has 201 designated charged parking areas, with 130 located on major roads. However, illegal parking and double parking, especially in the South District, continue to worsen traffic flow.

To address this issue, authorities will cancel permits for parking contractors who violate the rules. The traffic police and district administration will work together to ensure strict compliance.

The meeting also decided to close ticket counters for intercity buses operating within Karachi. These counters, which frequently cause traffic jams, must cease operations in the city. The Transport Secretary will oversee the implementation of this decision to further ease congestion.

DIG Traffic has also recommended closing schools near Sharah-e-Faisal and Karsaz from November 19–22 during the IDEAS 2024 defense exhibition. This temporary closure aims to improve traffic flow and ensure security for the event.

These measures demonstrate Karachi’s proactive approach to resolving traffic problems and improving road safety for its residents.
